Thank you, Daniel! I read today about Erica Chenoweth’s analysis that it only takes the engagement of 3.5% of the population for a nonviolent social movement to succeed.

Your interweaving of the concept of illusion with the Ino’s shroud story intrigues me. For Odysseus, it would seem that the magical shroud would be more illusory than the scraps of his ship. To us in this moment, Trump’s outrages seem more solid than the bonds of community we’ve so long forgotten how to nurture and sustain. Turning our attention away from the shadows on the cave wall and to the day-to-day reality of our bodies embedded in neighborhoods within forests and watersheds is the urgent task— and I like how this cranky frames it that way.
